About the Role

What does being a Homeholder mean?

A Homeholder is someone who owns or rents their home in the London Borough of Bromley and has a spare room they are willing to share. In return for affordable accommodation, a carefully matched Homesharer provides around 10 hours of practical support and companionship each week.

You remain fully in control of your home. You set the house rules, agree the support tasks, and decide what works for you. Our team handles all the matching, screening, and paperwork — and we’re always on hand if you need us.

Homeshare is not a care service. Homesharers do not provide personal care. But for many people, knowing someone is there — someone to share a meal with, help with errands, or simply be present — makes an enormous difference to daily life.

You need to be able to...

Own or rent a home in the London Borough of Bromley

Have a spare room available for the Homesharer

Have landlord or mortgage lender permission if required

Have full mental capacity (or have an appropriate appointee)

Provide two personal references

Important to know

Homesharers do not administer medication or provide personal care. The arrangement works alongside any existing care or support you already receive. It is not a replacement for domiciliary care.

The Process

How we find your perfect match

We take the time to understand who you are before we introduce anyone. Here’s how it works.

Initial Enquiry

Complete the registration form below or give us a call. We'll arrange a no-obligation chat to explain the service and answer your questions.

Home Visit & Assessment

One of our team will visit you at home to understand your needs, your lifestyle, and the type of person you'd feel comfortable sharing with. We'll also carry out a property risk assessment.

Matching

We carefully review our pool of screened Homesharer applicants and identify one or more potential matches based on personality, interests, and practical compatibility.

Introduction Meeting

We arrange a relaxed introduction — usually a coffee or meal together — so you can meet and decide if it feels right. There's no pressure; both parties must be happy to proceed.

Trial Period

A short trial stay (usually a weekend, then up to 14 days) lets both parties experience the arrangement before committing. We check in throughout.

Agreement & Move-in

Once everyone is happy, we put a written Homeshare Agreement in place covering all tasks, house rules, and expectations. The Homesharer moves in and the arrangement begins — with our ongoing support throughout.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can I end the arrangement if it's not working?

Yes. Either party can end the arrangement with 28 days’ notice. If there is a safeguarding concern, the arrangement can be ended immediately. We support both parties through the process.

The provision of free accommodation is usually treated as income in kind and disregarded for means-tested benefits. However, we advise all Homeholders individually on their specific situation and can signpost to further advice.

Homeshare works alongside existing care arrangements. The Homesharer is not a replacement for your carer — they complement the support you already receive.

Tasks are agreed between you and the Homesharer and written into the agreement. They may include cooking, light cleaning, shopping, companionship, helping with technology, or simply being present in the evenings. They cannot provide personal care or administer medication.

The Homeholder pays just £15 per week. This covers the full management of the service including matching, screening, the agreement, check-ins, and ongoing support. There is no cost to the Council.
